Atlanta progressive metallers MASTODON will enter the studio in a couple of weeks with producer Nick Raskulinecz (FOO FIGHTERS, RUSH, ALICE IN CHAINS) to begin recording their new album for a 2014 release. Speaking to RollingStone.com, MASTODON drummer Brann Dailor said: "[Nick is] a rock guy. He's a rocker. He likes to rock. He's done a bunch of our friends' records that sound great. I'm a fan of all the DEFTONES records he's done, all the ALICE IN CHAINS stuff, and he worked with QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE on [their 2002 album] 'Songs For The Deaf'." According to Dailor, MASTODON has written "18 or 19 songs" for the follow-up to 2011's "The Hunter". "It's gonna be massive and insane, lots of epic greatness," he said. "There will be lots of huge riffs and new directions. It's real weird, real math-y, real straightforward. It's up, down and all around. It's a culmination of everything for the band. The snowball keeps rolling and collecting snow."

Das ding bei mir ist das ich mir alle alben von Mastodon zusammen gekauft habe ^^ und immer noch total überrollt bin und noch nicht viel kapiere das neuste Album kaufe ich mir dann in 5 Jahren Man muss so eine Krasse Band am besten vom Ersten Tag an kennen und nicht erst 5 Jahre später drüber stolpern, dann ist das ganze nicht so hart...

Habe damals durch die Diskussion hier zu "the hunter" die Band erstmals für voll genommen, da ich sie davor in dieser Riege neu aufkommender US-Bands verortet habe, wo sowieso nichts Brauchbares bei rauskommt - was n Irrtum!

"Crack The Skye" hat mich dann aber wirklich fertig gemacht, so ein göttliches Werk! Ohne Makel und wahrscheinlich ein Album für die Ewigkeit.
Bei "Blood Mountain" und "Leviathan" bin ich noch am Knuspern, da brauche ich noch, "Remission" habe ich noch gar nicht.
Geile Band, aber man sollte das wirklich schon alles verfolgt haben he he

Die Band hat es tatsächlich geschafft, mit Leviathan und Crack The Skye zwei völlig unterschiedlich klingende Meilensteine innerhalb von fünf Jahren zu veröffentlichen. Beide sind für mich genau das, was manche große Bands nur einmal in ihrer Karriere schaffen, nämlich wegweisende Musik, die absolut unkopierbar ist.

MASTODON is putting the finishing touches on its sixth album at a Nashville studio with producer Nick Raskulinecz (FOO FIGHTERS, RUSH, ALICE IN CHAINS).

Speaking to ARTISTdirect.com, MASTODON singer and bassist Troy Sanders was asked if the band's new material picks up where "The Hunter" left off or if the group is "on a whole new trip." "I think, to a degree, it picks up where we left off," he said.

"As always, nothing was really pre-determined and spoken of beforehand, like, 'Okay guys, we need to write a lot of long epic songs and a lot of short sweet songs. We need to have a couple of slow ones.' Nothing like that was predetermined verbally amongst the four of us. We go in there and we kind of pick up on whatever comes through Brent [Hinds] and Bill's [Kelliher] fingers and their guitars and build and build.

"I guess it's going to be more of a continuation of where we left off with 'The Hunter'. Hopefully, it's just a collection of good MASTODON rock 'n' roll songs. That's where it's headed."

Asked what it's been like working with Raskulinecz on the new album, Kelliher told Metal Hammer magazine: "It's something that we totally need — a cheerleader to get our asses in gear. There he is saying, 'Come on, you're MASTODON… you're one of the biggest bands in metal… Smash that hammer down and write some heavy shit. It's time to do or die!' He's that kind of a guy."

Großartigste Band! Wobei ich die Crack the Sky im Langzeittest etwas geiler fand als die Hunter. Ich bin gespannt.
