Jorn - "Life On Death Road" (02.06.)

Es gibt neues vom Jornster! Das neue Album heißt "Life On Death Road" und wird am 2. Juni via Frontiers erscheinen. Das Album wurde von Jorn Lande zusammen mit Frontiers Allzweckwaffe Alessandro Del Vecchio produziert. Line-Up technisch ist hat sich einiges getan. Jorn ist jetzt wohl Teil der Mat-Sinner-Mafia. Sinner selbst ist Bassist. Dessen ehemaliger Voodoo Circle und Sinner sowie aktueller Primal Fear, Level 10 und Silent Force Kollege Alex Beyrodt ist Gitarrist. An den Drums sitzt Francesco Jovino, ebenfalls bei Prmal Fear, Level 10 und Voodoo Circle und früher auch bei U.D.O.. Keyboarder ist Alessandro Del Vecchio der neben Voodoo Circle und Silent Force noch bei zu vielen weiteren Projekten beteiligt war ums sie alle aufzuzählen.

Easily one of the greatest rock singers of the 21st century, Norway's very own giant Viking warrior Jorn Lande’s vocals are resoundingly strong once again on his ninth original studio album, “Life on Death Road”! This absolutely brilliant new album sees Lande attacking the microphone with rejuvenated vigor, accompanied by a new band and a bigger and stronger sound.

“Life On Death Road” took several months of hard work for the songwriting vision to come together. Jorn needed to take the music to a new level to push the concept of the band further than it has ever gone before. The result is a record that is deep, strong, full of groove and powerful with anthemic songs aplenty! Songs like "Man Of The 80's", "Love Is The Remedy", "Life On Death Road", "Insoluble Maze (Dreams In The Blindness)", and "The Slippery Slope (Hangman's Rope)" capture the essence of Jorn as a singer, songwriter and lyricist.

Jorn says, "It's easily one of the best albums I've ever recorded. This was all about putting the right people together for the right result, and about taking the necessary time to work more thoroughly and in depth with the material we chose for the album. The older I get, the more I feel it is necessary to listen to my heart and look for that genuine and honest feeling that made me take interest in music in the first place. Back in the 70's and early 80's when I grew up, people and music were more free and so the presence of feeling and soul came more naturally and was expected from an artist or a band. This is the energy and craftmanship we've been looking for, but still keeping a pulse on the modern times we live in. "Life On Death Road" is an original album that is pretty much summing up the last 40-50 years of rock and metal and has become a hybrid modern heavy rock album without losing those tasty elements of a good aged wine. Regardless, we're all products of our time, and the feeling, soul and symbioses we've achieved for this album is a rarity in today's music world, so in that sense this album is a true old school sailors' "tall ship adventure". From start to finish it took us nearly three years to finalize and I'm really proud to say that this album is the proof that classic albums can still be made."

The album also marks the debut of a new lineup of very experienced and gifted musicians around the Norwegian singer. On bass is Mat Sinner (Primal Fear, Sinner) who needs virtually no introduction to European heavy metal fanatics. On keyboards and production is Alessandro Del Vecchio (Hardline, Revolution Saints), who already joined JORN for the recording of his last covers album, “Heavy Rock Radio” and was the glue that helped Jorn to create the feel and the direction for the new album. Francesco Jovino (Primal Fear) is on drums and Alex Beyrodt (Primal Fear, Voodoo Circle) handles guitar. Truly a recipe for a roaring success!

Das hört sich doch alles ziemlich interessant an. Natürlich übertreiben die und schmeißen mit Superlativen um sich. Typisches Promo-BlahBlah hat. Aber die Beteiligung von Beyrodt, der mit Voodoo Circle jedesmal aufs Neue beweist dass er es drauf hat, stimmt mich hoffnungsvoll.

Jorns Stimme regelt alles weg. Der Typ ist der Wahn.
Riesenmanko war bei seinen Solosachen für mich immer das Songwriting, das über ganz weite Strecken einfach viel zu belanglos war, um mich trotz der Ausnahmestimme zu fesseln.
Wenn man den Typ mit tollen Songs kombiniert, wie z.B. bei Avantasia oder Dracula, ist das eine für mich unwiderstehliche Mischung.
Die Kombi mit Beyrodt find ich in der Tat auch spannend. Ich hoffe da kommt was tolles dabei raus.

Also, ich freue mich auf´s neue Album, da gibt´s keinen Zweifel.

Bin echt gespannt, wie sich diese Bandkonstellation auf die Songs auswirkt.
Mich interessiert ja schon, wer die Songs geschrieben hat. Jorn alleine, Jorn mit Matthias Lasch oder Jorn mit Alessandro Del Vecchio oder alle zusammen?
Hoffentlich klingt die Chose dann auch nach Jorn Lande und nicht nach Primal Voodoo Sinner.
Ich bin ja großer Fan von Jorn´s Gesang, denn bis auf ein bis zwei super Songs haben einige frühe Alben ja auch zuviel
unausgegohrenes Material dabei, wo die allerletzte Idee oder Ausarbeitung fehlt.
Schade, daß die Zusammenarbeit mit Trond Holter beendet scheint, denn auf Dracula hat nämlich das Songwriting
und der Gesang endlich gepasst, ähnlich wie bei Masterplan´s Debut und größtenteils auf Traveller, Bring Heavy Rock To the Land und Spirit Black.

Dass das Songwriting auf der Dracula gestimmt hat, lag glaube ich daran dass das eher dem Holter sein Projekt war und kein reguläres Jorn Album. Sieht man ja auch jetzt daran, dass Holter das Projekt ohne Jorn weiterführt.

Und wenn "nach Jorn Lande klingen" weiterhin Mittelmaß bedeutet, dann wäre ich froh wenn sich das neue Album eben nicht wie eine typische Jorn Platte anhört. Und was gäbe es denn besseres als eine Voodoo Circle Platte mit Jorn am Mikro?

Nun, ich meine mit "nach Jorn Lande klingen", daß es eben nach Dio-Deep-Purple-beeinflusstem Hardrock klingt und nicht wie Band X und Y,
in denen die hier beteiligten Musiker sonst noch spielen.
Jorn hat doch schon so seinen ihm eigenen Stil, und den zusammen mit tollen Songs der Marke Rock´n´Roll Angel, World Gone Mad,
Traveller, Tungur Knivur, Walking on Water oder We brought the Angels down, würde ich als ein echt gutes Album bewerten.
Also wie gesagt, der Stil dieser Songs darf nach meinem Empfinden gerne auf dem kommenden Album zu finden sein.
Und wenn´s anders, aber noch besser klingt, immer her damit, solange es nicht beliebig, austauschbar und nach
einer der anderen Bands von Mat Sinner, Alex Beyrodt & Co. klingt.

Wie unterschiedlich die Geschmäcker sein können. Ich höre Jorn sein Solozeug nur recht selten. Aber wenn ich mal ne Platte auflege, dann ist es eines der 3 Alben mit Jørn Viggo Lofstad an der Klampfe. Alles was davor oder danach kam finde ich mit Ausnahme von ein paar Songs (World Gone Mad, Sunset Station) nur noch belanglos. Deswegen hoffe ich ich darauf dass gerade Beyrodt auf dem Album meht als nur Instrumentalist ist.

Ich hab den Paragraf zu Dracula noch mal geändert. Ich hatte das Wörtchen "kein" vergessen. Jetzt macht es hoffentlich etwas mehr Sinn.

Nun, so wie es scheint, gibt es irgendwo die Version mit 12 Songs, aber für die Jewel-Case-CD scheinbar nur 11 Songs.
Dreamwalker scheint außen vor zu sein.
Entweder gibt´s doch noch eine Digi-CD oder der Song wurde für Japan oder so reserviert.
Ärgerlich, sowas.

Die ersten beiden Nummern waren recht langweilig. Der Song hier gefällt wiederum ganz gut. Das Solo hätte man aber ruhig etwas kürzen können.

Hey, das Album ist erstaunlich gut. Habs wochenlang nicht angerührt, aber das klingt viel runder als erwartet. Ich mochte diese Solokünstler-Hard-Rock Alben eigentlich nie so recht. Die hatten oft was billiges und konstruiertes an sich. Aber "Life On Death Road" atmet und lebt. Richtig gute, beseelte Mucke. "Love Is The Remedy" hat mir soweit am besten gefallen.
