DROWNED (Death Metal):
Idola Specus, recorded in spring 2014 and released by Sepulchral Voice Recods on July 25th, marks the first full-length album release by a band that was originally founded 1992 in Berlin and has since gone through a good number of demos, line-up changes, split-ups and long comatose intervals. Containing material written over a period of roughly six years and introducing new members t2 and g, it takes up the torch from where Drowned left off with their mini-album Viscera Terrae in 2006.
The purpose of Idola Specus is not to present a rehash of times begone, but to add a valid statement to the gospel of Death Metal as it was meant to be played. Emanating an aura of surreal morbidity with hints of doom and prog, Idola Specus is as esoteric and introspective as it is dark, heavy, and raw.
In their current incarnation, Drowned have played both Kill-Town Death Fest in Copenhagen and Norway’s prestigious Beyond the Gates festival in 2013. The first live appearance scheduled for 2014 is a gig on Hell’s Pleasure Metalfest. More shows to be confirmed soon.
THRÄNENKIND (Post Metal):
THRÄNENKIND came to be in 2007 near Munich in the south of Germany. The band name could be translated as "child of tears" or "child that causes tears" and was chosen as contrast to the "grim" and cliché names in black metal. The name links the open-minded and savage nature of children with the depressing artificial realities of modern human society.
The members of Thränenkind share interests in the ideas of anarchism, veganism and the critique of capitalism and industrial civilization. Some of them are straight edge. Their lyrics broach the issues of the relationship between humanity and nature, interpersonal relations, human society, anarchism and the endless longing for freedom.
Having released a demo (2008) and a split-CD with Heretoir, “The Elk” is the first full-length for the quintet. The earlier recordings had more (post) black metal and shoegaze influences, while their LIFEFORCE RECORDS debut album contains touches of crust and hardcore punk. But “The Elk” is offering also five formidable instrumental post rock songs with a melancholic yet beautiful atmosphere, too. Some of the songs are slow and profound. Others are fast and unfold the ruthless power of (post) black metal. Just like Profane Existence Magazine wrote: “THRÄNENKIND is all about atmosphere, not blazing speed or brutality. They remind me a bit of WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM without the black metal, but have a lot in common with Celestiial, a “woodland doom” band from the Mid-Western U.S.” “The Elk” is a concept album telling the story of two siblings, who are on a roadtrip to their father’s funeral. They are faced with meeting old friends and memories, tragedy, hope, death and a mysterious "stranger". The focus of interest: pure emotion and intense impressions. The heart takes control...
The band is raising a claim with awareness, respect and a diversity of sounds and words. All of this is the expression of the differentiated approach of the group. On the band’s second album for LIFEFORCE RECORDS – “King Apathy” – you can hear and feel what this means. The range of influences is wide – so are the feelings that have been transferred into fiery, impressive music. Following the path of “The Elk” (2013), THRÄNENKIND move freely in between crustcore, post rock, post black metal, and hardcore punk without putting obvious priorities or rather core areas. The focus – still – lies on creating atmosphere and melancholy as well as lasting impressions.
ESSENZ (Doom/Black Metal):
Essenz is a purposeful sonic ether, a decomposition of the physical that transcends the mind through floating acoustic elements. With contrasting, decelerated phrases, bursts of transformation are drowned in ecstatic adrenalin. ESSENZ is the invocation of a metamorphosis, a stimulation of remote realms of the psyche that dwells on the borders of musical extremes and opens the gate to a deeper level. ESSENZ play Occult Metal.
After the project’s birth in December 2006, the first self-produced concept EP Metaphysis was released in autumn 2009 (professionally manufactured). The LP version came to stores in June 2010 via Iron Bonehead and Amor Fati Productions.
The first official full-length ritual KVIITIIVZ – Beschwörung des Unaussprechlichen (›Kultus – Invocation of the Inexpressible‹ / ›The White Album‹, R. M.) followed on CD in July 2010. In March 2011, the album was released on wax by Amor Fati Productions. ESSENZ celebrated their first live rituals in renowned German venues in 2009 /2010 and played further concerts in 2011 in Germany and Italy, including headliner and record release shows, a performance at a multimedia reading, and a festival appearance). In cooperation with video artists, an official video was produced on Super 8.
The second album Mundus Numen will be released worldwide by Svart Records on the 2nd of May 2012 as gatefold lp and cd box. Its concept is based around the painful acquisition of ones deepest will, which enables to transform the world from an instance to a suggestible setting and implies manic boundary experience.
MOTÖRCULT (Speed Metal/Punk):
Speed Metal/Punk from Memmingen/Bavaria
